Celestine July Tipps, 87 transitioned this life on August 5, 2019. She was born April 1, 1932 in Cherokee County to the parentage of Reverend Ollie and Arizona July. Celestine accepted Christ at an early age. She attended Cherry Valley Church of Christ and later moved her membership to Central Pointe Church of Christ.
Celestine graduated from Fredrick Douglass High School, earned a Bachelor’s degree from Texas College and later received her Master’s degree from Prairie View A&M University. Celestine began her teaching career in Memphis, Texas and later moved to Quanah Texas. Later she joined Wilmer Hutchins where she was an instructional leader and eventually retired from Dallas Independent School District after 36 wonderful years of teaching.
Celestine married the love of her life, Cathell Tipps, Sr. on June 29, 1955. They were married for 48 years in Holy matrimony. They had three beautiful children, Cathell Jr., Kimberla Tipps-Morgan, and Coval Cavel Tipps. She loved her family so much.
Celestine enjoyed telling stories about her child hood, and shopping. She loved fashion and jewelry. She was ambitious, humorous, and she was known for her sweet giggle, and dancing.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Ollie and Arizona July; husband, Cathell Tipps Sr.; daughter, Kimberla Tipps-Morgan; brothers, O.A, Revis, Travis, Wesley, and Ray July.
Those that remain to cherish her memories are: her sons, Cathell Tipps Jr. (Kay) of Lancaster Texas and Coval (Teneisha) Tipps of Dallas, Texas; eleven grandchildren, Adowa Taylor, Cathell Tipps III, (Shamica), LaShandria Cassey (Donnell), William Tipps, Kaylon Tipps, Kemon Tipps, Kyla, and Kyra Morgan, Ne’Covia Tipps, Christian Tipps, and Montrell Hampton; nine great grandchildren, and two sisters, Alma J. Wickware of Duncanville, Texas and Eddye Jean Lee (Jesse) of Chesapeake, Virginia, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
