Jimmy Smith Obituary

Jimmy “Pappy” Smith was born on December 15, 1940 in Waskom, Texas to the parentage of Demorise Sr. and Iver V. Stephens Smith. The family relocated to Hallsville, Texas in 1941. There is where he grew up and was educated in the Rose Hill and Hallsville Galilee School System.

Jimmy was united in holy matrimony to Earlean Johnson on August 18, 1962 in Harrison County. Earlean affectionately called him “Honey” and “Daddy”. To this union, one son was born. Jimmy was a fulltime husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His pastime was watching sports and talking to his best friends.

He was an entrepreneur and self employed at Jimmy Smith Construction Company.

Jimmy departed this earthly life on December 3, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, R.L. Smith, Hattie V. Dillard, Verdell LaGrone, Maurine Howard, and DeMorise Smith II.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife of 58 years, Earlean Smith; son, Doug Smith of Longview, Texas; three grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; three Godchildren (children he raised); sisters, Jessie Nell Smith of Hallsville, Texas, Faye Taylor of Marshall, Texas, and Milton Smith of Dallas, Texas; sisters-in-law, Rener Taylor (Herman) and Beneva Mayo; five brothers-in-law, two special nephews, Tony Smith and Charles “Mule” Johnson; his right hand man, Tony Summerfield, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
