Unidell Lewis Gordon was born on July 10, 1935 in Daingerfield, Texas to the parentage of Lura Lewis and Ida Mae Lewis. She attended Rhodes High School completing her senior year at the age 14. She then attended Jarvis Christian College from which she received her bachelor’s degree. While at Jarvis, she was the Captain of the Women’s Basketball Team. She also attended college in Commerce for her Teacher Certification in Education. After her formal education, she met Ruzell Gordon in Dallas, Texas. In 1955, they were united in holy matrimony and blessed with two children, Sheila Machan Willis and Anthony Glenn Gordon.
Our mother was first employed at a young age at Glo Day & Night Cleanness and later at Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas. After receiving her Teacher Certification in Education, she became employed with the Dallas Independent School District, teaching at L.G. Pinkston High School and W.T. White High School. After 27 years of teaching, she retired from Thomas Jefferson High School on May 21, 1998.
Upon her confession and accepting Christ into her life, Mother united with Mt. Mitchell Church of Christ at an early age. After moving to Dallas, Mother attended Ninth Street Church of Christ until relocating to Cedar Crest Church of Christ and Overton Road Church of Christ. Where at this time she served as the Senior Secretary of the Women of Elegant from Southwest Christian College in Terrell, Texas and Women Bible Class. Before her demise, she was a faithful member of Mountain View Church of Christ under the leadership of Brother Hamilton. She taught Bible Class for Mountain View Church of Christ and other churches. She was also part of the Widows of Mountain View Church of Christ.
After her retirement, our Mother began to operate in her many gifts: sewing, hat making, baking, gardening, and creating biblical games. During this time, she baked for people all over the state. Our Mother created a Bible Bingo Game and was the overseer of The Cake Expert.
