Bessie Mae Dacus was born December 30, 1936, to William Austin McGraw and Mary Lee King, both of Naples, Texas.
Bessie accepted Christ at an early age at Morning Star Baptist Church in Naples, Texas. Later, after moving to Dallas, Texas she joined Greater New Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Coleman (Dallas, Texas) and subsequently thereafter, she attended Bon Air Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor J.E. Mitchell (Dallas, Texas) where she was a loyal and devoted member.
Bessie graduated from Carver High School in Naples, Texas. She later migrated to Dallas, Texas where she attended trade school to broaden her education. She would also work for Highland Park Independent School District in their nutrition department where she would meet Mrs. High and was then introduced to the world of jewelry making. She then pursed her a career as a jeweler at Aurum Jewelers until she retired.
Bessie departed this life on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 6:57 am. She was preceded in death by both parents, three brothers, her grandmother, and her great granddaughter.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: seven children, Blythe Lyons, Frederick King (Jeletta), Sharon Jackson, Kenneth King, James Mitchell, Pamela Barnett (Donald), Lavon Favors, and Lionell Dacus; fourteen grandchildren, Ricky (Denise), Teresa (Timothy), Tisha (Frank), Patrick, Victoria, Latora (Melvin), Aswad-Jemil, Kendrick (Stephanie), Denisha, Casey, James Jr., Cantrell, Johnathan, and Odis III; nineteen great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, three sisters, Wanda Daniels, Debra Porter, and Gina Reed; one beloved aunt, Hazel Porter and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends whom she loved dearly.
