Billy Rogers Morrison, affectionately known as “Poppy” born on Saturday, November 25, 1944, in Longview, Texas, to Vernon and Loreda Morrison, entered eternal rest on November 20, 2025, at the age of 80 in Dallas, Texas. Billy gave his life to Christ at an early age, and his faith remained a steady foundation throughout his life.
He graduated from Mary C. Womack High School in Longview, Texas, and went on to attend Wiley College, Class of 1968, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. It was there that he proudly pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. in 1965 —a brotherhood he cherished deeply and represented with honor throughout his life.
Billy devoted more than 30 years of service to the Dallas Independent School District as an educator and coach. His passion for teaching, mentoring, and shaping young lives left a lasting impact on countless students, athletes, and colleagues. His influence extended far beyond the classroom and the field, touching lives with wisdom, discipline, and compassion.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 61 years, Cleophus Morrison; two sons, Braylon (Sheri) Morrison and Berrell (MaNeka) Morrison; six grandchildren, Britny (Samuel), Brinique, Kaylon, Braylon II, Craig, and Donald (Allison); five great-grandchildren, Tesiyah, Killion, Jayden, Sean, and Elizabeth; two sisters, Marilyn (David) Thomas, and Earlene Simmons; Godson and family, Saidrick (Lori) Jackson, D’Andria, Saundria, Saidrick II; Goddaughter, Tracie Hill, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, fraternity brothers, and lifelong friends.
Known for his contagious energy and magnetic presence, Billy never entered a room without filling it with laughter, and joy. He loved entertaining, fishing, spending time with his family, and celebrating life’s moments—big and small. With his clever wit, vibrant laugh, and signature smile, he lit up every room he entered. His warm spirit touched every person he encountered. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of love, strength, and unwavering faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
