Bobbie Sexton Obituary

Bobbie Jean Lincoln, the matriarch of East Dallas’ iconic Lincoln Family was born on December 13, 1930, to Jimmie “Daddy” & Florence “Madear" Lincoln in Dallas, Texas. She was the third of what would become one of the community’s largest families, amassing a total of thirteen children. Bobbie was born during the Great Depression, but the Lincoln family continued to grow & thrive through some of the country’s toughest economic times, especially for the black family of that era. Led fearlessly & faithfully by Daddy & Madear, the Lincoln children:  Travis “Jack”, Dorothy, Bobbie, Jimmie Jr., Minnie Lee “Tootsie”, Lillian, Willie Marvin “Bill Bo”, Kenneth, Melva Jean “Mel”, Patsy, Helen, Samuel “Sammy” & Arnetta “Baby Sis” were a closer than close family of siblings raising coming generations of Lincolns to love & respect each other all the same.

The Lincoln family attended the People’s Missionary Baptist Church in South Dallas under the pastoral leadership of Rev. I.H. Lyons & later Rev. Dr. S.M. Wright, Sr.  This is also where Bobbie was introduced to and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord & Savior. Bobbie attended Dallas Public Schools for as long as time and the declining economy permitted, then like so many of the time, went to work. Bobbie was employed by the Timberlawn Psychiatric Hospital as a housekeeper. It was during this time that she met & married Mr. Tommy Cooper.  This union was blessed with two daughters, Kim Verneé & Lynn Reneé.

Eventually, Bobbie settled into a new life as Mrs. James Sexton. A last name she sometimes joked about liking because it ‘sounded sexy.’ Indeed, Bobbie enjoyed a good laugh & a good time. She went on to raise all five of her grandchildren, and she did so with a beaming sense of care & pride. Bobbie Jean was the life of the party all the way to the end and loved to dance.  She would dance no matter the era or genre of music playing, and she & a particular grandson, Shmyron were inseparable. 2 peas in a pod. The apple of each other’s eye.

Bobbie will be remembered & regarded as the longest spanning matriarch of our precious Lincoln Family, a loving mother & grandmother (simultaneously), and the undefeated life of every party.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents; Jimmie & Florence Lincoln, nine of her siblings, her daughter; Lynn Renee, two grandsons; Darrin Cooper and Christopher Cooper. She leaves to cherish her memory & continue her legacy daughter; Kim Cooper - Rasool (Bilal), three grandchildren, Shuntell, Kimberly, and Shmyron “OG King” Cooper. 14 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren.  3 siblings;  Lillian Lincoln-Peppers, Samuel Lincoln & Arnetta Lincoln-Hoover (Jerry), along with countless nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, relatives both distant & local, and friends.
