Carmen Michelle Ramos Ross, 66, transitioned on March 19, 2025, at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital. She was born July 8, 1958, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Joseph A. Ramos and Jane Davidson Ramos. Carmen was married on May 10, 2008, to Aric Ross. She has one brother Jay Anthony “Tony” Ramos.
She attended the private and public schools of Pine Bluff, Arkansas and graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1976. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications and Secondary Education from Tennessee State University (TSU) in 1980. Following graduation, she worked in the National Technical Support Centers for both Xerox and IBM Corporations in Dallas, Texas. In 1989 she was promoted to IBM Education in Atlanta, Georgia.
In 2004, Carmen took an early retirement from IBM and moved back to Pine Bluff, Arkansas to care for her mother. While in Pine Bluff she consulted for EduCorp Consulting and later taught Internet/Web technology at SEARK College.
She and Aric moved to DeSoto, Texas in 2009, where she was employed in the DeSoto Independent School District, until her retirement in 2020.
Her past community affiliations included Board President for ACCESS Inc. and a member of the Mayor’s 20/20 Strategic Educational Task Force, Light Up the World, and Tea Talk organizations. She was an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated in Dallas – Upsilon Lambda Omega and Omicron Mu Omega chapters respectively.
Carmen was baptized at a young age in Trinity Episcopal Church in Pine Bluff, AR and was currently attending Friendship-West Baptist Church in Dallas, TX.
Carmen had a big heart, loved people, loved to laugh and have fun with family and friends, and never met a stranger. She had a special way of making others feel included and valued. She took a great interest as a civil rights activist following in her mother’s footsteps. She carried the tradition of baking her mother’s famous pound cakes that everyone enjoyed. She loved to cook for her husband, family and friends; the gatherings with loved ones always made her happy.
Carmen leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband Aric and their 3 children, Roderick Gaston of Dallas, TX., Aric Ross Jr. and Marisha Ross of Pine Bluff, Ar., 6 grandchildren, LaKenteir, MaKiya, Alaysha and De’Ajah Gaston of Dallas, TX., Shomarie and Shomiere Coleman of Pine Bluff, AR. One brother, Jay Anthony “Tony” Ramos (Debra) of Atlanta, GA., A special bond was shared with her nieces and nephews, Antonette Ramos Neal (Derric), Jay Anthony Ramos II, Antonio Ramos, Troy Ramos, Antonio Ramos (LaTonya), Tyler Ramos, Valerie Stevenson, Carissa Moore, Danyon Whitaker, Kala Hartsfield and the late Christopher Moore; and a host of great nephews, great nieces, God children, Sorors, family members and friends.
