Charles Greene Obituary

Charles Tyrone Greene was born February 7, 1949 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  Charles spent his early years in Belview, where after great determination his mother, Colleen Greene moved cross-town to a better place that Charles often stated would change their lives and that he would forever be grateful to her for having the courage to do so.

Upon graduating from Atkins High School in Winston-Salem, Charles worked for Western Electric for a number of years. Shortly after Charles and his entire family received Christ in baptism, he decided that he needed to expand his horizons and further his education allowing him to express his love for our Lord Jesus Christ.  Charles loaded his “duce and a quarter” (Electric 225) and drove cross country to Terrell, Texas and enrolled in Southwestern Christian College.  Charles excelled academically and was able to use that knowledge to help others advance.  He was on the Dean’s List and was awarded the J P Bowser Award in Religion.  In his second year Charles was elected runner-up to Mr. Southwestern College.

It was during his last year at Southwestern that Charles accepted his first minister’s position at Shady Grove Church of Christ in Jefferson, Texas.  After a little manipulation from his now mother-in-law, Mrs. Claude Smith and Aunt M. A. Andrews he met the love of his life and now wife Willie Maye Lewis-Greene.

Charles attended Abilene Christian University where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting.  He served with his brother Dr. Kenneth R. Greene for over ten years at the Metro Church of Christ.  He was employed with Primerica Financial Services for over 38 years and retired as Regional Vice President in 2014. He was co-owner of Advanced Tax Professionals for over 37 years. Charles was currently minister at Oak Cliff Church of Christ where he served faithfully for more than 10 years.

Charles was an outstanding bible teacher and inspired many to study the bible and seek a deeper walk with God.  He was a wise man with the gift of discernment, counseling, and loved the Lord in a very special way and always sought to have a closer relationship with Him. Charles had an incredible laugh and found joy in helping others at any time.

Leaving to enjoy the special memories of Charles are his wife of more than 35 years Willie Maye Lewis Greene; Sons:  Charles Greene II (Victoria); Edward Greene (Jasmine); Daughters: Charlene Greene, Nicole Smith (Orlando); and Antionette Greene; Brothers:  Julius Greene (Donna); Alphonso Green (Pamela); Dr. Kenneth Greene (Mary); Sister: Belinda Matthews (Bernard, deceased).  A special friend and business partner for over 37 years; Anita Kazee Thomas.  A host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives and friends. He will be missed by all members of his various congregations.
