Clarice Harper Obituary

Clarice Juanita Harper, born the first daughter of Magdalene Holland and Dennis Thomas in Fort Worth, Texas.  At an early age, her mother moved the family to Dallas, where Clarice professed her faith in Jesus Christ; she was baptized and joined Good Street Baptist Church, of Dallas, TX. Clarice attended schools of Dallas Independent School District, and graduated with honors from Booker T. Washington High School (Class of 1952). She also performed as a gymnast during half time football games. Clarice continued her education at Prairie View A&M University and Texas Southern University, where she studied Elementary Education.

During the year of 1955, Clarice married James Harper, Jr. and from this union, three daughters and one “Spunky” baby boy were born. By the year 1970, she became a single mother, but GOD was with her; GOD helped her to remain faithful, strong, determined, and hardworking (Isaiah 41:10). She was employed by Texas Instruments (Richardson, TX) for more than 35 years; starting as an assembly line employee then climbing up the ladder to become an accounting clerk in the Accounts Payable Department.  Upon retirement, she continued to work part-time at Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, Kroger and Walmart Customer Service desks.  Clarice was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Dallas Mavericks, Texas Rangers, and Dallas Cowboys. “Mama Clarice” was our designated driver, who transported everyone, from her children to great-grandchildren to school and activities, work, doctors’ appointments, as well as weekly shopping sprees.  She was also a devoted caregiver to her mother and aunt during their aging years. GOD blessed “Mama Clarice” with many talents, and she did her best to use them all (Matthew 25:14).

“Mama Clarice” leaves to cherish her memories:  three daughters, Clara Jan Spencer (Kenneth), Linda Kaye Irving (Craig), Brenda Faye Kalle (Mohamed), and son, James Harper III (Wanda); beloved sister, Bobbie Nell Chambers; five grandchildren: Colette Johnson (Bernard), Kenneth Spencer, Jr. (Monica), Julian and Jasmine Anderson-Harper, and Nicholaus Nash; thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and a bonus son Scott Hanstrom; also a host of loving nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and neighbors.
