Donna Laverne Busby was the second child born to Reverend Perry Busby, Jr. and Carrie Louise Chillis Busby in Houston, TX on May 29, 1955. She attended schools in the Beaumont Independent School District. She graduated from Charlton Pollard High School in 1973.
She accepted Christ at an early age and became one of the lead singers in the choir at Borden Chapel Baptist Church, where her father was the pastor. Donna used her amazing vocals in many different settings. She often had requests to sing at weddings and funerals. Members of the choir often requested her to sing at musicals and one of her favorite songs requested was "Going Up Yonder" by Walter Hawkins.
During her career, Donna gained extensive knowledge in managing customer services departments. Throughout her career, she served in supervisory roles for several organizations. She retired from IBM in 2016.
Donna was quite the host of many family and friend's get-togethers throughout her life. Her love of cooking and baking was sure to bring great conversations around all her favorite dishes. Of course, everyone loved her fried chicken and cajun macaroni. Her best desserts that were frequently requested were peach cobbler and sweet potato pie. You could be sure to hear her boisterous voice throughout each function. Donna loved animals and owned two dogs, Tequila and Toto, and they were also part of the family. What a joy to be in such a happy environment!
As Donna began to meet the challenges of her illness, she lived with her sister Patricia and family from 2016 to 2018. In 2018, she moved to California to live with her sister Toni. In late 2019, she moved to Rowlett to live with her brother Ron and his wife Michele. They took extraordinary care of Donna and all of her daily needs. While living with them, she joined All Nation Fellowship Church where Rev. Robert Canady, III is the pastor.
Donna is preceded in death by her father, Rev. Perry Busby, Jr., mother, Carrie Busby and sister, Paula Busby. Donna closed her eyes for the final time on March 16, 2025, at 1:45pm. Donna leaves to mourn her oldest sister, Patricia Busby-Briggs (Goldman Briggs) of Waxahachie, her brother Ron Busby (Michele Busby) of Rowlett, TX, her sister Toni Busby of Oxnard, CA and her brother Perry Busby, III (Nancy Busby) of Tucson, AZ. She also leaves to mourn several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
