Dorothy Bradshaw Obituary

Dorothy Mae Turner Bradshaw was born December 12, 1934, in Gilmer, TX, the daughter of Eugene & Willie Lou Turner, and sister to John Edward and Pearlie Faye Johnson, who all preceded her in death.   The family moved to Longview, Texas, and she graduated in 1952 from Longview Negro High School. Then the family moved to Dallas, TX, and they started attending the East Dallas Church of Christ, where she remained a faithful member until her death.

Dorothy met Nathaniel Bradshaw, who was an Army buddy of her brother, in January 1954, and they married on December 27, 1954. To this union, 3 girls were born: Sharon, Denise & Marsha. Nathaniel & Dorothy were married for 58 years until his death in March 2013.

Dorothy had various jobs. Beautician in Casa Linda Shopping Center. She was a salesperson at Margie’s Department Store and her final position landed her at Neiman Marcus, where she worked in the cash office for over 20 years until retiring in 1998.

Dorothy truly loved the Lord. At East Dallas Church of Christ, she served as a Sunday School teacher, Ladies Bible Class Teacher. She was instrumental in starting the Christian Round Up and Ladies Prayer Brunch at East Dallas that is still being held today. She has been a speaker at various Ladies Day Programs around the metroplex. She served as an elder’s wife, counselor, confident, mother and dear friend to many. Dorothy showed love for the younger women at church with wisdom in being a leader’s wife, marriage and being a strong Christian wife and mother. Dorothy loved her children, and she was especially fond of her grandsons, Jason, Nathan, Aulston and Kevin. Her son-in-love, Charles, since 1981 became to be more of a son than an in-law. She was so happy to have great grandchildren also. A woman of unwavering grace, compassion and strength, her legacy of love and kindness will forever live in the hearts of all that knew her.

Dorothy is survived by her three daughters, Sharon Washington (Donald deceased), Denise Hervey (Charles), and Marsha Bradshaw; her four grandsons, Jason Hervey (Susan), Nathan Hervey (Courtney), Aulston Bradshaw and Kevin Hervey; four great grandchildren, Nicholas Washington Hervey, Jacob Washington Hervey, Sophia Hervey and Jason Hervey Jr., sisters in love, Barbara Jean Culbreth and Deloris Ann Hines. A host of nephews, nieces and others she considered her children. Sis Bradshaw will truly be missed by many.

While our hearts are heavy, we are deeply thankful for the outpouring of love, condolences, and support during this time. Thank you to Homecare Heroes Agency for the two special angels (aides), Pamela Rogers and Keaundria Choice, who treated her like their own.
