Ethel Moore was born in Harleton, Texas to John Henry and Gracie Willis Stoker, the second child of seven children. After her family moved to Dallas, Texas, she attended and graduated from Lincoln High School. She then furthered her education by receiving an Associate’s Degree in Retail Merchandising and was a licensed Massage Therapist for many years after retiring from Phillip Morris as a Sales Representative. She was preceded in death by both parents, she was twice married, but also preceded in death by both of her husbands and by her two brothers; Johnny “Peter” Lee Stoker and Willard “Pill” Ray Stoker. To her union with Herman Godfrey, two sons were born; Mark and Gregory Godfrey. To her union with Bud Moore, she shared over two wonderful decades.
Ethel was a cherished member of the Church of Christ community. She was an active and faithful member of the Beckley Heights Church of Christ. She dedicated her life to serving Christ and her family. She often said “I will be faithful to the end,” and she did just that.
A true leader and devoted congregant, she often taught bible study classes and evangelism throughout the week for many fellow church members. She was also in charge of the Stoker family reunion for many years. She also would volunteer at the North Texas Food Bank and Mountainview West Church of Christ pantry, giving out meals to the less fortunate.
Ethel transitioned peacefully into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones. She is remembered as an adoring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Left to celebrate her life and cherish her memories are her two sons, Mark and Gregory Godfrey; three grandchildren, Destine, Trynity, and Daveon Godfrey; two sisters; Melba (Larry) Bellinger and Ruth “Baby Ruth” Walton; two brothers, John D. Stoker and John Wesley Stoker; and a host of family, friends and church members.
