Evelyn Delories Mukes Wesley was born in Woodlawn, Texas, the oldest of five children born to L. C. and Leola Kennedy Mukes. Evelyn received her formal education in the Harrison County School District where she attended Starlight Elementary School in Woodlawn, Texas and the Dunbar Elementary School in Marshall after her family moved to Marshall, Texas. Evelyn graduated from Pemberton High School in Marshall in 1958. Evelyn attended Tyler Junior College and received her certification in Phlebotomy.
Evelyn became a Christian at an early age at the Southside Church of Christ in Marshall, Texas. After graduation from high school, Evelyn moved to Dallas, Texas where she attended the East Dallas Church of Christ where Bro. R.B. Thurmond served as minister.
Evelyn met the love of her life, Lindbergh (Wesbergh) on a bright sunny day in Dallas, Texas Lindbergh and his brother, Jodie Lee (J.L.), were outside talking, when he saw this young lady walking to her aunt's beauty salon. He asked his brother, “Who is that young lady?” His brother replied, “That's Ms. Kennedy's niece”. Lindbergh approached her and they began dating and soon after that Evelyn married Lindbergh S. Wesley at East Dallas Church of Christ on July 15, 1960. Three children were born to this union: Linda Carol Wesley, Lisa Deenen Wesley Sutton, and Lindbergh Wesley, II (Her pride and joy). Also known as, the four L’s and one E. In the early seventies the family moved to Hawkins, Texas where they placed membership with the East Side Church of Christ where her husband served as an elder. She worked for Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler for 17.5 years until she retired.
Evelyn was a Christian and classy lady who loved to shop. Her favorite stores were Dillard's, Macy's and all the quaint little boutiques (Three Wishes) in and around Tyler. All the sales associates in these shops knew her by name. She learned to cook at a young age and loved to cook for her family. Cooking was her comfort and her love. Each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren have their favorite dish – from biscuits, sweet potato pie, homemade fresh berry cobbler with her homemade ice cream, and German Chocolate cake.
Lindbergh and Evelyn were married for 54 years until Lindbergh’s death separated them on February 4, 2015. After Lindbergh's death, Evelyn moved to Denton, Texas with her daughter, Lisa and began attending Simmons Street Church of Christ in Denton, Texas. She loved all her nieces and nephews, but Chris had her heart.
Evelyn Wesley departed this life on February 15, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Fred Mukes, Walter Mukes, and Carrie (Mukes) Williams.
Evelyn leaves to cherish her homegoing, one brother Arthur Lee Mukes (Longview), her daughters Linda Wesley (Carrollton), Lisa Deenen Wesley Sutton (Flemint) of Denton, one son Lindbergh Wesley (Amwaj Island Kingdom of Bahrain); seven grandchildren, Gregory Grant (Latisha), Nicholas Blackmon, Carlissa Blackmon, Jamilia Sutton, Crystal Sutton, Ashley Daniels, and Ernest Wesley; eight great grandchildren, Montrell Broadway, Alexis Grant, LaDaryus Cook, A’maruim Grant, Reagan Blackmon, Ryan Blackmon, Ashlynn Daniels, and Brieal Daniel, three great-great grandchildren, Zabrinna Broadway, Ryko Broadway, and Legend Grant. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly.
