Ms. Girley M. Cross was born to the parentage of Willie and Luella Randle on December 9, 1936 in Dallas, Texas. She attended Dallas Public Schools, graduating from F.D. Roosevelt High School and furthered her education at El Centro Community College.
Affectionately known as “Cuzin Bush,” she was the third of four children - Ana Luella Dixon, Johnnie Randle and Billy Randle - all who preceded her in death. She met and fell in love with Mr. John L. Smith whom she cherished dearly. Ms. Cross was a domestic caregiver for special families, their children and pets, imparting endless love and often referring to them as her own family.
Ms. Cross was preceded in death by her parents; Willie and Luella Randle; husband, John L. Smith and son, Donald W. Cross.
Sis. Cross entrusted her spiritual and religious care to the late Rev. A. A. McKnight of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church and later to the pastorage of the late Rev. T. E. Brown, Sr. In January of 1981, she assisted in the organization and chartering of the Ebenezer Memorial Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. A.D. Smith, where she served as the founding choir president for five years, Trustee Chairperson, Administrative Assistant to the Pastor, Adult Sunday School Instructor, WMU - Mission II President and Founder and 4-Star General of the award winning Senior Elite Marching Crusaders Drill Team.
She leaves to cherish her memory two sons: Gregory C. Cross, Sr. (Geri Gray), Bruce H. Smith (Selena Smith); six grandchildren: Deon Britton (DeBette Britton), Quenice Simington (Brandy Simington), Gregory Cross, Jr. (Lauren Cross), Gre’Kishia Cross, Vernae Cross and Brandon H. Smith, Sr.; 12 great grandchildren, a special daughter in law, Iris Cross; two special nieces Alice Faye Armstrong and Larisa Randle; two special cousins, Bob Randle and Jim Randle; in addition to a plethora of church members and friends who will miss her dearly.
