Glenda Gail Taylor was born in Dallas, TX on April 12, 1961. She was the youngest of 4 children born to Hettie McGarity and the late Odell McGarity. Glenda gave her life to Christ at a young age. She graduated from South Oak Cliff High School and soon enrolled herself into Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. Glenda was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp., and met Graham Tyrone Garlick, the father of her children, while she served. She continued her education to earn an Associate's degree at Eastfield College, followed by a Bachelor's at Texas Women's University. She was currently doing online courses for her Master's, also at TWU.
Glenda was a soldier for the Lord. She joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in the early '80s, and eventually relocated to Cedar Hill, TX, where she became a member of Graceland Community Baptist Church. There, she dutifully served on several committees such as Hospitality, Choir, Usher Board, and Mission II. She also taught many Sunday school classes, youth church, Women's and Youth Conferences, and Vacation Bible School. Glenda had a fulfilling career in Social Services advocating for children and continued with Dallas Casa for almost two decades. She was a fierce advocate, not only for the children but for the team she led and supervised daily. "She meant what she said, and stuck to what was right." In her pastime, she liked watching politics and cooking excursions, watching movies, enjoyed reading, and liked The Obamas. Most of all, she loved being around her children and studying God's Word.
Glenda is survived by her three children: Jarroyd (Kanille), Ceicily (Kevin), and her baby girl Lydia; her grandson, Graham; and her mother, Hettie. She is also survived by three siblings: Sandra, Renee, and Thomas, as well as a host of relatives, church family, coworkers, and friends who will miss her dearly.
