It was a day of joy on August 30, 1967, when Gwendolyn “Gwen” and Gwetdolyn “Gwet” Thomas was born in Galveston, Texas to Mr. Wilmer and Doletha Thomas. Gwen transitioned to eternity on September 9, 2021.
Gwen accepted Christ at an early age. She was a devoted Christian who loved singing in the choir as a member of Cathedral of Faith Church, San Jose, California. She graduated from Kountze High School in Kountze, Texas in 1985. She went on to attended college at Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas where she also a member of the Jarvis Mass choir affectionately known as a “song bird”.
Gwen was a very talented singer, song writer, artist, poet, decorator and prayer warrior and all-around amazing sister. She had a funny sense of humor who loved man’ best friend.
Gwen loved her family and had a spirit of giving. She would initiate family activities and giving generously to everyone. She loved to entertain the kids and ensured they had what they wanted every Christmas. She also loved to pay it forward by giving to total strangers.
Gwen spent over 13 years in the hospitability industry. Most importantly, in 2014 when our mother needed care, without question she up and moved to California to care for her. She ensured our mother wanted for nothing, doing much more than she could ask or think.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wilmer Thomas, and sister, Lecia Ann Thomas.
Gwen leaves to cherish precious memories: her mother, Doletha Thomas; brother, Wilmer Thomas; sisters, Carrie Livingston, Helena Thomas, Elma Thomas, and twin Gwet Thomas. She also leaves her nieces, Knisha Giles, Temeika Durden, Natieya Thomas, Danita Gage, and LoAnna Jones; nephews, Adrian Thomas, Joshua, Thomas, Darius Thompson, and Glenn Matthews Jr., along with a host of other relatives and friends who loved her dearly and will miss her immensely.
