James Eldridge Obituary

James “Sweet Pea” Eldridge was born on February 17, 1970, in Dallas, Texas to Wanda Sue Eldridge. On July 17, 2025, he peacefully transitioned from this life, leaving behind a legacy rooted in love, faith, creativity, and connection. James’ journey of faith began early in Kaufman, Texas, where he made the decision to follow Christ as a young boy. His spiritual walk deepened throughout his life, and he later rededicated himself to Christ through baptism at East Prairie Street Church of Christ, where he served faithfully for many years. In 2014, James and his family placed their membership at the Stop Six Church of Christ, now known as East Pointe Church of Christ. There, he was honored to serve as a Deacon, offering his gifts in the area of Media and Technology. Through this ministry, he poured himself into shaping worship experiences that were both reverent and moving, using sound, lighting, and visual artistry to create an atmosphere where hearts could encounter God.

On October 2, 1999, James married the love of his life, Jenequa Tyshun Evans. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in shared purpose and love, and were blessed with two sons, Kosi Akhoi Eldridge and Kenyan Jakai Eldridge—his pride and joy. James’ love for his family was deep, unwavering, and evident in everything he did.

A lifelong lover of music, video, and production, James’ creative spirit touched many lives. Known by many in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and beyond, he was a DJ, a music industry record promoter, a video music engineer, and the creator of Hip Hop Soul Radio—a 24-hour online radio station he operated from home for two years, long before digital radio gained widespread popularity. After retiring his turntables and vinyl crates, James turned his focus to ministry, producing worship environments that not only honored God but drew others to Him.

He was a man of humility and humor, of quiet strength and creative vision. Whether behind a camera, a soundboard, or a laptop, James was always creating something meaningful—something that made people feel seen, loved, and drawn closer to the heart of God.

James was preceded in death by his great-grandfather Fred Eldridge, Sr.; his beloved great-grandmother Evelyn Eldridge, who he affectionately called “Mama” and raised him from infancy; his grandmother Helen Eldridge; his mother Wanda “Sue” Eldridge; and his cherished great-aunt Loyce “Iish” Nix, who gave him the nickname “Sweet Pea” when he was just six weeks old—a name that lovingly followed him all his days.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 25 years, Jenequa; their two amazing sons, Kosi and Kenyan; his beloved mother-in-love; his bonus father; siblings by marriage whom he loved as his own; nieces and nephews who will forever treasure their “Uncle Sweet Pea”; and a host of cousins, friends, and church family across the nation. James “Sweet Pea” Eldridge lived with purpose, led with heart, and loved without hesitation. His life was a melody that continues to echo through every life he touched—a faithful servant, a devoted husband and father, a creative soul, and a man after God’s own heart.
