James P. Shaw, Jr. was a sweet, kind, generous, and caring person who was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished. He was an amazing and devoted Husband, Father, Son, Brother, and Uncle. He had a charming and captivating wit that radiated in any setting. He was a gifted athlete who excelled in multiple sports, including tennis, football, baseball, track and field, and basketball. He was recognized and honored as a Member of the Illinois High School Basketball Hall of Fame. His favorite phrase was “I’m Blessed”.
James’ life began on April 12, 1954, in Cairo, Illinois. He grew up in the 19th Street First Baptist Church where he accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized in 1966. He was a member of Friendship-West Baptist Church in Dallas, TX. He graduated from Dixon High School in 1972 in Dixon, Illinois. He joined the Air Force shortly after graduating from High School and was honorably discharged in 1975.
In 1980, James moved to the Dallas–Fort Worth area and began his career with Channel 5 KXAS as a Broadcast/Media Engineer. Moving back to Southern Illinois to care for his ill mother, James left Texas for a short time. He did not return right away. He moved to Florissant, Missouri. Deciding to return to Dallas, he relocated and resumed working until his retirement.
He married the love of his life, Andres L. Brawley, in May 1997 and they traveled the globe enjoying God’s creation.
He was preceded in death by his mother: Anne M. Winters, Father: James P. Shaw, Sr Sister: Martha A. Vinson, and Brother: Larry D. Winters.
Those left to cherish his memories are: his devoted and loving wife, Andres Shaw, Son: James (Michelle) Shaw III of Evans Mills, New York; son: David Shaw of Carbondale, Illinois and daughter: Leah Brawley of Atlanta, Georgia; sisters: Zelda Johnson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Linda Cross of Dallas, Texas, Glenda Jones of Cairo, Illinois and Kristie Shaw of Rockford, Illinois, Valerie (Matt) Howse of Springfield, Illinois, Gail Vaughn of Sterling Illinois; brothers: Paul Shaw of Carbondale, Illinois and Cletus Shaw of Joliet, Illinois. Others left to cherish his memories are a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
