Jimmy Jones Obituary

Jimmy Dorsey Jones, a resident of Rowlett, Texas, was born on March 24, 1950, to Weldon Hubert Jones, Sr. and Mamie Lee Freeman Jones in Dallas County. As the fifth of Weldon's nine children, Jimmy attended Bourn Ave School in Rockwall and later graduated from South Garland High School in Garland, Texas, following Rowlett county's rezoning to Garland ISD. Jimmy was raised in a devout Christian household, worshiping at Zion Baptist Church of Rowlett, Texas, and later transferring his membership to Cedar Grove Christian Church. He even continued to profess Christianity throughout his military career.

At the age of 26, Jimmy, had an ardent desire to serve his country full-time, but instead opted for the US Army National Guard, allowing him to balance service with a civilian life and his family responsibilities. He continued to educate himself and obtain many awards and honors including Rifle Sharpshooter, Texas Faithful Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and engineering achievement certificates both in and out of the army. Jimmy Jones rose to the rank of 1st Staff Sergeant E-8, he was a Field Radio Repairman and was a certified instructor of Primary Leadership Development Course Reserve Components prior to his retirement. Jimmy Dorsey Jones proudly served his country actively for 22 years and was transferred to the United States Army Retired Reserve where he remained until he was eligible for full retirement in 2010.

Jimmy's long tenure at Varo Manufacturing Company in Garland, Texas, led to his meeting Gwendolyn S. Thomas, with whom he fell in love. They married in 1990 and expanded their family with the birth of their son, Denzel M. Jones in 1993. During his marriage, Jimmy continued to hone his skills in automotive repair, showcasing his talent as a DJ at various gatherings, and exploring his amateur interest in golf. If you needed assistance with automotive repairs, he was the ideal person to consult. He possessed a remarkable ability to build and rebuild intricate mechanisms. His hands were highly skilled. He loved capturing moments on camera; his family photo collection is the most impressive by far.
