John A. McCarver was born on February 6, 1921, in Troup, TX. He was the second of eight children born to Elder Hollis H Sr. and Josie McCarver. John accepted Christ at an early age. He attended Central High School in Troup, TX. Later he enlisted in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge in 1947.
After being discharged from the Army he relocated to Oklahoma City, OK where he met and married Jessie Mae Thomas. John was married to Jessie Mae McCarver (Thomas) for 50 plus years. Together they raised 4 daughters.
John worked for the Veterans Hospital and later worked and retired from the Roadway Express and Board of Education (transportation department) both of Oklahoma City, OK.
John moved to Dallas, TX in 2017 with his beloved daughter, Nemesia, who was by his side, caring for him through his illness and declining during his final 8 years. John found connections playing dominoes at the Well Med Center in Dallas, TX. He enjoyed traveling, playing at the Casino and watching Westerns. He will be remembered for his flair dressing, his sharp comebacks (he had no filter) and his competitive skills in dominoes.
John was preceded in death by his parents, wife, siblings, and daughter, Treana McCarver.
John departed life on February 11, 2025, and leaves behind to celebrate his legacy, his daughters, Nemesia Hooks (Roger) of Dallas, TX, Florence Steele (Louis), Charolette Summers both of Oklahoma City, OK. Five grandchildren, Thomas Smith, Natonya Dean, both of Oklahoma City, OK. Antwone McCarver, Michael A. Hooks Jr, both of Dallas, TX, and Michaela Denson (Tomme) of Austin, TX. Twelve great-grandchildren. He will be truly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
