Joi L. Simpson-Johnson was born in Dallas, Texas on August 31, 1977 to Herman & Mary Simpson. She graduated from Carter High School in Dallas where she was a member of the drill team for all four years. After graduating high school, she attended Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1995. In 1996, Joi transferred to Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas until 2000, and completed her studies there with a Bachelor of Science degree.
Joi worked for Dallas Independent School District, Irving Independent School District and Duncanville Independent School District. Her career in education spanned a total of 24 years. While working, Joi made the decision to continue her academic pursuit. In 2019, she earned a Master of Arts in Educational Studies at Concordia University. Joi was in the process of achieving her ultimate goal, a Doctor of Education in Administrative and Supervision Educational Leadership at Liberty University.
Joi was a member of The Life Changing Church (TLCC) in Red Oak, Texas under the leadership of Pastors Marcus & Traci Copeland, where she sang in the choir, and was willing to help in ministry in any way she could. In her spare time, Joi loved working on her personal craft projects.
Joi leaves to cherish her memory; her husband of 14 years, Cedric “CJ” Johnson; sister Sheronda Walden; niece Kendall Walden; nephew Christopher Walden and a host of other friends and relatives. Joi joins her parents and daughter, Amber L. Walden in God’s open arms.
