Kalen Aubrey Ellis was born to Jackie Ellis on February 20, 1986. He was the youngest of the twins and the youngest of all 3 children. Kalen grew up in Milwaukee, WI. He attended 53rd Street School Elementary School and Milwaukee Education Center (MEC). Kalen started secondary education at Harold S. Vincent High School and graduated from Milwaukee Area Technical College in 2004.
Kalen accepted Christ at an early age and showed his dedication through participation in a plethora of Christ centered activities. During his youth he sang passionately in True Praise Community Gospel Choir, and Youth Leadership Academy Boys Choir. He attended weekly Sunday services, vacation Bible school and participated in holiday programs at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Milwaukee WI. The family’s favorite were Easter Sunday skits that he performed with his brother by his side. Those skits still remain a topic of conversation and the source of many smiles at family functions. Kalen was affectionately regarded as “Tay Tay” by family. This lifelong nickname made its debut when he was an infant and Kalen continued to respond attentively to it. After high school he began working at The Human Development Center and St. Charles Youth and Family Services. Both were social service organizations founded on serving Milwaukee’s troubled youth.
Kalen constantly sought out opportunities to shape, mold, and build others and himself. He was a work in progress and was always striving to be a better, more authentic version of himself.
Kalen was joined in holy matrimony to Violet “Rocky” Lewis on June 24, 2008. From that union they loved and nurtured three daughters. The two moved to Dallas, TX in 2009 in hopes of creating a better life for the girls. They were married for 5 years. His love for his daughters remained strong until his final moments. Kalen met Marcel in 2016. The two married in 2020. They spent their union supporting each other’s endeavors, taking day and weekend trips, and living in the moment.
Over the years Kalen was employed by several fortune 500 companies such as Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, Chewy.com, Frito-Lay, and Bank of America. He labored intensively and was an asset to every company he served. He most recently found joy as an underwriter assistant for Amegy Bank. In his free time Kalen enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, and laughing.
Kalen departed this Earth on Tuesday August 24, 2021. He will be fondly remembered for his humor, his smile, his gentle spirit, and his love of family. He’ll be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his Grandfather, Walter Ellis, Sr.; Grandmother, Marion Ellis; nephew Zion Ellis; and cousin Ronald Bridgewaters, Jr. He is survived by his husband, Marcel Fleming of Dallas, TX; three daughters Aubriana, Zaniyha, and Makiyah, their mother Violet Ellis of Arlington, TX; his mother Jackie (Patrick) Ellis of of Arlington, TX; twin brother Kyle Ellis-Kannon of Arlington, TX and sisters Quiana (Will) Breda of Houston, TX, Janell Thomas and Sabrina (Clarissa) Fabian of Dallas, TX and a plethora of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
