Kenneth Mitchell Obituary

Kenneth was born on January 8, 1951 in Marshall, Texas to Ollie Ray and Bobbie Elum Mitchell. He graduated in 1969 from the H.B. Pemberton high school in Marshall, Texas, where he was on the track team and served in the Future Teachers of America club. After excelling in his studies, he attended Bishop College in Dallas. Kenneth accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Elysian Fields Baptist Church. He later moved to Dallas, attended Golden Chain Baptist Church and  later joined Community First Baptist church in 1981 under Pastor C.H. Gerald, where he served on the Usher Board. In 2008, he joined Greater Community First under Pastor Emeritus Dr. James E. Coleman. On fourth Sundays, you would enjoy Kenneth singing and swaying on the back row in the Male Chorus.

In 1981 on Valentine’s Day, Kenneth married the love of his life, Deborah Ann Daniel, whose beauty he likened to the Avon lady on television. They shared an unbreakable bond and love for 38 years as ascribed in their vows. On February 14, 2020, they would have shared their 39th anniversary.

Kenneth was employed with the United States Postal Service, where he was an incredible asset for 33 years; until he retired as a manager. The US Postal Service never forgot his excellent work ethic, commitment and dedication. Within a year of his retirement, he was asked to return to help during the Christmas season. With his ingenious humor he said, “I did not retire to go back to work!” If you knew Kenneth, you knew that he had two loves - his family and his Dallas Cowboys! He was a favorite and fun husband, brother, uncle, father and grandfather. He travelled many miles to support his beloved family in varied athletic and dance events.  With that same passion, he was front and center coaching the Cowboys all the way to victory or loss by screaming at the television from the coach.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie Ray and Bobbie Mitchell; and brothers, Ray Forest and Melvin Mitchell; 3 paternal aunts and 1 uncle; 1 maternal uncle, O.D. Elum.

Precious Memories of Kenneth will be cherished by his devoted wife, Deborah; sons, Dayrum Sr., (Natasha), Christopher (Sarafia), and Christian (Kaszia); daughters, Shamiki,  and  Chrystal Thomas (Marc); grandsons, Marc, Jr., Kourtland, Dayrum, Jr., Tyler, Ashtyn, Dayvion, Cameron, Bryan, and Mason; granddaughters, Sierre’, Tiffaney, Taylor, Jayea, NaRyah and Aniya; great-granddaughter, Emerie; siblings, Travis Mitchell (Gwen), Cheryl Mitchell Rose; Joycelyn Franklin (Donnell), Patricia Hall (Troy), Diedre Moffitt (Otha II), and Kim Siurek (Ryan); maternal aunts, Doris Adams and Willie Faye Scott; mother-in-law, Thelma Daniel; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Johnson and Vanessa Daniel (Earl); 14 nephews, 16 nieces and a host of great-grandnieces and great-grand nephews, a great-great grandniece, cousins and life long friends.
