LC Richardson Obituary

LC Richardson passed away at home with family on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at the age of 87. He was born May 17, 1937, in Tuscaloosa (Havana), Alabama, home of his proud parents, Percy and Annie Pearl Richardson. LC, which is his legal name; while attending school in the 40s and 50s in Tuscaloosa, his teachers would call him Lawerence Curtis; he would say, No, just initials, LC. During high school, he became a professional drapery installer and thereafter married his lifelong supportive wife, Mary Richardson. After marriage, they moved to Saginaw, Michigan, and he began working at General Motors Saginaw Malleable Iron (Chevrolet Central Foundry), where he retired on 8/31/1987 after 33 years of service while also being a member of the UAW local union.

During his time working at GM, LC grew to love traveling with family. He and Mary would take the children alongside the Martin family on long summer road trips to visit family in Alabama as well as a weeklong destination of choice to different cities within the US each year that generated memories that were cherished amongst the families. He also grew to love his newfound hobby, bowling. For years, LC would bowl up to three leagues a week and was known to his family as a semi-pro bowler, maintaining an average of 190.

After putting down the two-ball bag, LC moved from in-house and traveling bowling to watching bowling on TV along with golf and tennis matches, which became his new favorite pastime hobbies. He enjoyed attending the Kingdom Hall meetings with Mary and weekly bible studies with Brother Banks Morris (Saginaw, Michigan). As time went on, LC and Mary decided to move to Dallas, Texas, in 2017 to be closer to family. He continued attending virtual Watchtower public talks and midweek meetings with his baptized sons and grandchildren.

LC was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Mary Richardson, who succumbed in May 2022. As they aged together, the beautiful bond and care they shared showed a testament to the depth of LC's capacity for love and devotion when "in sickness and in health."  Also preceded in death were his parents, Percy and Annie Pearl (Patton) Richardson, and stepmother, Laura (Wilson) Richardson. son, Anthony Sullivan; granddaughter, Michelle Richardson; four brothers, James, Leroy, Duane, and Myron Richardson; brothers-in-law, Walter and Edward McVay; and sister-in-law, Lois Hopkins.

He will be remembered as a father who taught life-tough lessons to his loving children: Gregory (Janice) Richardson of Saginaw, Michigan; Donald (Andrea) Richardson of Dallas, Texas; Gwendolyn (Gregory) Jackson of Midlothian, Texas; and Corey (Rochel) Richardson of McKinney, Texas. His seventeen grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, who called him Papa and Gramps, where he taught them the skills of research first, then proceed.

LC also leaves one surviving brother, RC (Betty) Richardson of Los Angeles, California, and three dear sisters, Mary (Luther) Gibson and Julia (Wilbert) Madyun, both of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Joyce Wilson of Saginaw, Michigan. Three in-laws, Dorothy (William) Martin and Brenda (Samuel) Culberson from Saginaw, Michigan, and Lenda (Edward) McGowan of Durant, Oklahoma. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including Charles (Big Mackling) Mackling, Onius (Pony) Matthews, Clarence (Snow) Frazier, and Curtis Riggins. Along with his brother-in-law and cousin, William Martin.

LC enjoyed spending time with family and friends while providing his perspective with a good sense of humor that was funny in a sarcastic way. He was known to be frugal but always generous with his heart. LC will be deeply missed by his family and friends, and his physical presence may be gone due to cancer, but his heart and pulse remained strong until his passing. LC’s love and guidance will continue within his children and family as they continue to take his legacy forward; along with those whose lives he touched, rest in PEACE, and we will see you again, our loving father, family, and friend. Your memories will forever be cherished.

Rest in peace LC Richardson, you will be missed, never forgotten, and always loved!
