Lavesta Jean “JJ” Williams was born October 22,1950 in Overton, Rusk County, Texas to the late Willie P. and Rosie L. Williams and was the fifth of five children. She departed this life on May 27, 2024, at Methodist Dallas Medical Center.
At an early age Lavesta became a member of Harmony Pirtle Baptist Church and after graduation from Kilgore High School she relocated to Dallas, Texas in 1970. She continued her spiritual journey when she joined Friendship-West Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir.
Lavesta had various employers over the years but had retained longtime employment at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, where she retired on December 31, 2013.
She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, shopping for deals, watching television game shows, reading her favorite books, loved having her picture taken, and keeping in touch with her friends and family on her computer.
She was married to Larry D. “Rabbit” Thomas and through this union they raised a son LaMarcus “Markey” Williams. Mr. Thomas preceded her in death on June 15, 2017.
A contributing cause of death was her long history with diabetes.
Lavesta was preceded in death by her mother and father, older brother, Jonathan Williams, older sister, Clarice Oten; niece, Nicole Williams, and brother-in-law, Windell Murry.
Lavesta leaves to cherish her memory: a son LaMarcus Williams; devoted sister, Mary Murry of Dallas, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Wendell and Theresa Williams of Austin, Texas; nieces Quincy E. Williams, Patricia Humphries of Henderson, Texas; Jennifer and husband Wallace D. Smith of DeSoto, Texas; Gwen Oten of North Carolina; Kimberly Thomas of San Bernadino, California: nephews Lonnie J.
