Laura Sue Schexnayder was admired and loved by many. She was born on April 11, 1935, to the late Earl Diggles and Eva Renfro in Jasper, Texas. There she grew up with six brothers and sisters (Chester, Clodine, Alvin, Namon, Jacqueline, and Josephine). She achieved her education in the Texas public school system. At a very young age Laura was taught the value of hard work. She helped with raising her younger siblings and assisted her mother and father with rigorous responsibilities in the home and fields. As a teenager, the family relocated to Beaumont, Texas.
In Beaumont, at the age of 27, she met the true love of her life, Milton Joe Schexnayder (Jeanerette, LA). Their love quickly blossomed into marriage on September 17, 1963. Laura and her children joined Milton and became an instant family. In their union six children were raised: Jeannell, Debra, Herbert, Randy, Joseph, and Raquel.
In 1987, the family relocated to Fort Worth, Texas. Laura worked as an independent caregiver to young children and the elderly for much of her adult life until she retired at the age of 65. Her hobbies included playing cards, sports and listening to blues music.
Her generosity and sincere thoughtfulness have touched and inspired many. Her great sense of humor intermingled with her candid form of communication resonated with everyone. Laura was a virtuous woman, who dedicated her life to supporting her family and loved ones in any way that she could. She is credited for providing a “lifeline” to many during their time of need. She honored her husband and truly enjoyed spending time with her children and extended family and friends. She was the “glue” that kept everyone, and everything bonded together.
She departed this life on September 20, 2024. A woman who had great faith in Jesus Christ, was called home. She was preceded in death by her parents, her six siblings, husband: Milton Schexnayder, son: Randy Dixon, granddaughter: Laura Lee Matthews, granddaughter: Randi Dixon, grandson: Brian Jones, and great grandson: Landon Slaughter.
She leaves to cherish her memory five children: Jeannell Jones of Fort Worth, TX, Debra Matthews of Duncanville, TX, Herbert Dixon Jr. (Diane) of Beaumont, TX, Joseph Schexnayder (Kelley) of Crowley, TX, and Brenda Raquel Torrence (Cornelius) of Cedar Hill, TX. Grandchildren: Sarah Leger, Crystal Dixon (Bradley), and Sierra Neville of Beaumont, TX, Erron Debose (Macayla), Tyus Williams, Detrick Hubbard, of Fort Worth, TX, Herbert Dixon III (Stephanie) of Lamarque, TX, Curtis Hubbard (Sherissa), Kamille Jackson of Houston, TX, Courtney Reed (Travis) of Glenarden, MD, Denzel Schexnayder Hart of Dallas, TX, Trinity Torrence of Cedar Hill, TX, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
