Lewis Flemming was born October 4, 1943, to the late A.C. Flemming and Bernice Flemming in Clarksville, Texas. He attended school in Livingston, Texas and graduated from Dunbar High School. Lewis received his bachelor’s degree from Jarvis Christian College before going to the United States Navy in March 1967. After a tour in the U.S. Navy, he continued his education and received his master’s degree from Prairie View A&M University.
Lewis married the “Love of His Life” Marie Cauley on June 9, 1967.
Brother Flemming as he was affectionally known was a member of Easterview, Overton Road, and Mountain View Church of Christ where he served as a Bishop for many years.
Lewis was employed with the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 2008.
Lewis loved fishing and playing dominoes was his passion. After retirement he hosted many domino get togethers on Monday nights.
On May 12, 2022, after a 2 year battle with nasal cancer, Lewis transitioned from Labor to Reward. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, A.C. & Bernice Flemming; brothers, J.C. Flemming and Willis Flemming.
Lewis is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marie Flemming; his children, Ceric B. Flemming (Stacy) of Missouri City, Texas and Lewis Anthony Flemming (Tameka) of Waxahachie, Texas; siblings, Gene Flemming (Sheryl) of Woodland Park, Colorado and David Flemming (Diretha) of Livingston, Texas; grandchildren, Aniya M. Flemming, Samari G. Flemming, Davis B. Flemming, Cedric L. Flemming, and Zaria N. Flemming; family-in-law, Hermise & Ramona Wilkins, Chester Cauley, Eula Oliphant, and Michael & Michelle Anderson. He will be missed by his aunt, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
