Doreen Adams was born August 14,1948 to Thomas Charles and Nettie Williams Adams in Hartford Connecticut. She graduated high school in the Hartford School District.
She became the proud mother of her only son, Lance Paul Adams, on October 27, 1970. She met and married the love of her life, John Louis Hornbuckle, Jr. on November 2, 1974.
They moved to Dallas Texas and joined the Illinois Avenue Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Alonzo D. Nickerson on February 20, 1977. She was a loyal and faithful member until she could no longer serve. She was involved in several ministries throughout the years which included President of the Gospel Choir, a Deaconess, The Kitchen Committee, member of the Ruth Mission Circle and Sunday School.
Sis. Hornbuckle was known for remembering and recognizing everyone’s birthday. You were certain to receive a phone call or birthday wish for your special day. She had a passion for crocheting and made many baby blankets and booties over the years.
She was employed by K-Mart Department Store and thereafter as a Cafeteria Manager at Dallas Independent School District where she later retired.
Although she has left her temporary earthly home, we look forward to seeing her again in the mansion prepared just for her in Heaven. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John L. Hornbuckle, Jr.; daughter, Tamar Hornbuckle; sister, Donna Harris and brother, Thomas Adams.
She leaves precious memories with her son, Lance Adams; grandson, Lytidrion Deion Giddings; great grandson, Tydre Zachary Giza Giddings; special son, Brian Keith Slaughter; The Illinois Ave Baptist Church Family and many other family & friends.
