Margie Kate (Wesley) Woods, a native of Marshall, Texas was born June 7, 1941, to the parentage of Verleson Wesley, Sr. and Annie Mae (Kennedy) Wesley. Margie attended Starlight Elementary School in Woodlawn, Texas until the family moved back to Marshall, Texas where she attended Dunbar Elementary School. She graduated from H. B. Pemberton High School in 1958 as an honorable student. She received her Bachelor of Science degree of Chemistry and Mathematics from Bishop College in 1962.
The knowledge Margie gained for her educational ability was put into action by the Dallas Independent School District. Using these credentials for 27 years, she taught science and math at several high schools in Dallas. The first school she taught in was Booker T. Washington Technical High School. Afterwards she taught at F. D. Roosevelt High School, The Business Management Center High School, Pearl C. Anderson Junior High School and James Madison High School.
Margie Woods was twice nominated to “Who’s Who Among American High School Teachers” by her students. She retired from teaching and imprinting her knowledge into the minds of students in 1996.
At an early age, Margie Woods was baptized and added to the Church of Christ in Marshall, Texas. She moved to Dallas and became a member of the East Dallas Church of Christ. Her husband John Woods serves as an elder. She was a faithful member and participated in various activities and programs of the East Dallas Church of Christ. Over the years, she has served as youth counselor, Sunday School teacher, Ladies Bible Class teacher and as a secretary of the church. When physically able, she assisted in various needs of others.
Because of her love, strength and faith in God’s word, she was chosen to the City-Wide Ladies Day Programs which were benefited by her efforts. She was also a member of the Dallas Metro Ladies Group. Margie pursued interest in analytical gifts to help others. She was a volunteer patrol with the Dallas Police Department for the Buckner Terrace Community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Walter Woods, and her dearly beloved Aunt Willie Mae Kennedy.
She leaves the cherish her memory her husband, John, of 61 years; 2 sons, Ron (Rebbie), Harold (Doris); brother, Verleson Wesley, Jr (Mary); 2 sisters, Mae Frances Wesley and Doris Elane Grady; 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends who will hold her in their hearts.
