Michael Glenn Edwards, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on August 5, 2025, just three days shy of his 69th birthday. He was born on August 8, 1956, in Dallas, Texas, to the late Bennie Lee Edwards and Ruth Ella Harris.
Michael was educated in the Dallas Independent School District and was a proud graduate of Franklin D. Roosevelt High School, Class of 1974. At Roosevelt, he excelled as a football athlete. He continued his education at East Texas State University. During his time there, he became a 1976 proud initiate of the Eta Phi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and remained a dedicated Life Member throughout his life.
His professional career was marked by dedication and hard work. Michael was employed with Southwest Wheel and 7-Eleven before beginning a distinguished 39-year career with the United States Postal Service, where he served with pride and commitment.
Michael’s greatest joy came from his family. He was the loving father of DeAndre’, DeAndrea, DeMarquis, DeAisha, and Jasmine, and the cherished grandfather of Brianna, Saniyah, Terrani, DeAndre Jr. “Tiger” and Paisley. He is also survived by his siblings Thurman (Bally Sue), Carol, Gerald (Vickie), Judy, and Peggy, as well as his best friend Larry McDonald, numerous nieces, nephews, and an extended family that included the Lincoln Tigers Girls Basketball Team.
Michael was known for his deep love of music and his passion for sports. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with family and friends, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Anthony Edwards. “Big Mike” will be remembered for his warm heart, unwavering loyalty, and the joy he brought to all who knew him. His legacy will continue to live on in the lives of those he touched.
