On November 21, 1955, a beautiful, handsome, baby boy was born in Dallas, Texas, to the late Learis Jones and Dorothy Manning. They named him Michael Wayne Jones. Michael attended school in the Dallas Public School system and graduated from David W. Carter High School in 1973. He served in the United States Marines for four years and received his Honorable Discharged in July 1977. At an early age, Michael accepted Christ and became a member of Riverside Baptist Church.
In 1980, Michael married Rita Pugh and to their union, two children were born, Tiffany Renee and Krystal Mykel and they later divorced.
After returning home from the service, he began working for the U.S. Post Office. He later worked for the Veterans Administration first at the hospital then at the Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy (CMOP). Michael retired from CMOP in 2011.
In 1987, he met the love of his life and soul-mate Vickie Parks Grayson. Michael & Vickie eventually married and to this union, two sons Michael Wayne II and Jeremy Ali were born. Michael also received an extra blessing, a son Erik Grayson, Vickie’s son from a previous marriage. Michael loved going to the country when he was younger and enjoyed the open range, so he moved to Naples, Texas to prepare a country home for his wife and family to enjoy once they fully retired. After retirement, Michael became a licensed barber and opened his barber Shop in Naples, Texas. Michael loved to travel in his RV with his family and always loved a good sports car. His favorite vacation destination was Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Michael was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in December 2019. He battled with treatments of Radiation & Chemotherapy and seemed to be leaning toward recovery. On December 11, 2020, just before daybreak his immune system just couldn’t take anymore, and he went home to be with the Lord. Vickie was such a loving wife who fulfilled all of Michael’s dreams, desired and needs and was by his side till the very end.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Learis Jones and Dorothy Manning, brothers Donald Jones, Learis Jones, Jr. and sister Sue Thomas.
