Much like the game of basketball, Terrance DeMar Johnson played life with passion, heart, and an unshakable loyalty to his team—his family and friends. He brought light and laughter wherever he went, always uplifting those around him. If you knew Terrance, you knew his energy was contagious, his presence larger than life, and his impact unforgettable. Whether on the court or off, he had a way of bringing people together, making every moment meaningful, and leaving behind a legacy of love.
Born and raised in Duncanville, Texas, Terrance was the youngest child of O.C. Johnson Jr. and Jessie Jewel Johnson, and he shared a deep bond with his siblings Bobby Johnson and Nina Johnson Haywood. From an early age, it was clear that he had a special spark—one that would shine through in everything he did.
At an early age, Terrance accepted Christ into his life at The Union Church, a foundation that shaped the man he became. His faith was reflected in his kindness, generosity, and the unwavering love he showed to those around him.
His passion for basketball was clear from an early age. He attended Christway Academy for elementary, William H. Byrd Middle School, and later Duncanville High School, where he played a key role in leading the Duncanville Panthers to a Texas state championship victory. His years at Duncanville were filled with lifelong friendships and unforgettable moments, many of which were made on the court. His dedication to the game carried him to Pepperdine University and eventually overseas, where he played professionally in Italy and France as part of the International Basketball League.
Terrance’s life was full of passion, and it went far beyond the basketball court. He had a natural gift for bringing people together—whether it was behind the turntables as everyone’s favorite DJ or at the bowling alley, where his skills spoke for themselves. But nothing in this world meant more to him than being a father. His marriage to Kelly Dabbs-Johnson blessed him with his greatest role—being dad to Terrance “TJ” Johnson. Terrance was TJ’s biggest fan, showing up to every game, pouring his heart into highlight videos, and cheering him on with endless pride. Being a father wasn’t just something he did—it was who he was.
Terrance had a rare gift—his quick wit and infectious humor knew no bounds. Whether you were on the court or off, no one was safe from his trash talk. If you thought you were getting a pass, think again. His loyalty was unwavering, his kindness unmatched, and no matter where he went, he either knew someone or made a new friend. His larger-than-life presence and love for the game remained with him even into his 40s, a testament to his passion and dedication.
Though his time here has ended, his legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty lives on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him. We will forever cherish the memories, the joy, and the unbreakable bonds he created.
The game may be over, but your legacy will never fade. Even though the final whistle has blown, your spirit lives on, like an unforgettable moment on the court that continues to inspire long after the game is done.
