Vanessa “Momma” Hayes was the only child born to the late Liza Ella and George Moffitt on November 28, 1958 in Houston, Mississippi. Vanessa graduated high school in Chicago, Illinois. She later met and married Ralph Flanagan, and they had four children, Martine (D) Flanagan, Tivill (Shawn) Flanagan, Nicole (Tony) Hunt, and Ralphina (Melvin) Johnson. She later moved to Long Beach, California where she obtained her degree in accounting at Cerritos College and raised her children with love and devotion.
Vanessa accepted Christ in her early twenties, and was baptized while attending Truevine Missionary Baptist Church in Lynwood, California.
She was a virtuous wife, mother, loving grandmother, but most of all a spiritual women of God whose countenance was displayed in the presence of all who knew her.
As an armed security for the City of Dallas, Vanessa was known for her honesty, integrity, and morals. She lived her life fulfilling her dreams with the things she loved to do, such as taking long two mile walks, riding her bike, and having bible studies. Vanessa walked mentally, physically, and spiritually in Christ.
God called Vanessa home on March 6, 2021 where she is now walking around Heaven all day. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Martine Flanagan, and her parents. She is survived by her son, Tivill (Shawn) Flanagan; daughters, Nicole (Tony) Hunt, and Ralphina (Melvin) Johnson; grandchildren, Tatianna, Lautanna, Dequan, Tivill Jr., Vanessa, Tony Jr., Daneisha, Deontae, Tyrese, Dantrell, Sophia, Danielle, Grasun Jr., Zaire, and Harmoni; great grandchild, Taylor; aunt, Lucille of Chicago, Illinois; uncle, Jesse Lee Griffin, along with a host of other relatives and friends that loved her dearly.
