Deacon Walter Dale Harris was born April 7, 1952. He was a loving and devoted son, brother, father, and friend. Mr. Harris was a creative spirit who was passionate about music, poetry, and art. He was a man of many talents who was truly gifted with his hands and had the ability to fix just about anything. He loved playing his beloved guitar, creating beautiful drawings, and transforming old or broken items into something new and functional. Mr. Harris also had a special skill and love for automobile restoration. From sewing vehicle upholstery for redesigning the interior, to getting dirty and greasy underneath the hood, there was no task too great for him to tackle.
Mr. Harris received his education from Gladewater High School, graduating with the Class of 1970. Shortly thereafter, he joined the United States Army where he served his country as a Sergeant, receiving recognition as a Marksman. He was also a former employee of the Ft. Worth Independent School District. He worked in custodial maintenance at Briscoe Elementary School for well over ten years where he forged lasting relationships and left many fond impressions.
Mr. Harris was the epitome of servitude. He became a soldier in the army of the Lord, uniting in fellowship with the Golden Gate Church of God in Christ in 2006. During his tenure at Golden Gate, he served the ministry faithfully until his health declined. He drove the church van, served on the Finance Committee, sang in the Choir, and was a dedicated member of the Deacon Board.
During his lifetime, Mr. Harris was a constant source of inspiration and support to those who knew him. He was a mentor to the young and old alike. Always encouraging his children, brothers, nieces, nephews, and friends to “think smarter, know better, and do better”.
He is preceded in death by his parents Floyd Harris, Willie Mae Harris, and George Jones. His eldest brother Floyd Harris, Jr. also received his wings. He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters: Dedra Harris Williams, Tonya Harris Johnson (Daverick) and Rena Haynes; One son: Brandon Harris. Seven brothers: James E. Harris (Luvenia), Eddie F. Harris (Pamela), Louis W. Harris, Bobby D. Harris (Mafatua), Bonnie P. Harris, Dessie Jones, and Jessie Jones; One sister: Bobbie J. Harris Thomas; Two granddaughters: Taylor Williams and Dalles Johnson; Three grandsons: Joshua Minor, Christian Tennison, and Tylor Dowell. Three great grandchildren: Grace Brown his “Little Warrior”, Adrian Dowell, and Skylar Dowell; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, relatives, and good friends.
