Worrell Francis, Sr. Obituary

Worrell Roy Francis, Sr was born on March 18, 1949, in Clarendon, Jamaica West Indies to Clarence Francis and Joyce Harriot. Roy, as he is commonly known was one of 13 siblings. He attended Race Course Elementary School and furthered his education at Brompton High School, Kingston Jamaica. In 1971, Roy joined the Jamaica Constabulary Force where he trained at Harman Barracks Kingston, Jamaica. Roy worked several years as a Constable Police Officer in Jamaica. He met Barbara Patricia Morgan, and on December 16, 1972, they were married. Roy and Barbara were blessed with two children, a son Worrell Roy Francis Jr. born October 27, 1973, and a daughter, Astacia Renee Francis born February 6, 1977.

In 1980, Barbara immigrated to New York and in 1985 Roy later immigrated. The children followed in 1986.  Roy worked various jobs in security and in 1990 he became supervisor on the trading floor at the New York City Mercantile Exchange eventually retiring in 2001. That same year Barbara passed away. During his retirement he welcomed his first grandson, Mekhi Ian Francis Senior, born January 11, 2003. Later that year, Roy decided to officially retire to Cedar Hill, Texas with his current wife, Laurna Legree.

Roy was a superb cook. One of his favorite dishes to make for the family was Ackee and salt fish with fried dumplings. I can recall always asking him to make roti and I marveled at how perfect it would always turn out. Along with being a great cook, his pastime was sports. His favorite team was the New York Yankees. In between family, cooking, and sports, he often spent many hours in conversation with his aunt, known to many as Aunt Beryl.

Roy was a very generous, caring, loving, and giving person. He would open up his home to anyone in need. Roy was also a loving father, son, uncle, nephew, and grandpa. Roy leaves behind his wife Laurna Legree, son Worrell Francis jr., daughter Astacia Francis, grandson Mekhi Francis-Senior; step-son Chris, daughter-in-law Jackie, grandchildren Christina, Khole, Kyle and Kelsey; brother’s Lowell, Stanley, Hilton, Paul, Delvin, Wayne, and Dillon; sisters Jen Rose, Juliet, Rhona, Faith and Viveen; beloved aunts Beryl, Daphne, Dezmel and uncle Dudley; many beloved cousins, nephews and nieces in Jamaica, USA, England and Canada; and a host many friends.
