Mary Ruth was born on April 28, 1933, in Carthage, Texas to the parents of Raymond and Bernice Luckey. She was reared with her eight siblings (Dave Luckey, Dorothy Young, Raymond Jr (Babe Bud), Billy Luckey, Dottie Pryor, Essie Taylor & Charles Luckey in a home full of love and God’s teachings.
She proved to be a talented basketball player in school and received her cosmetology license from Texas Southern. She met and married IV Rattler of Long Branch, Texas and was soon blessed with four children from that union. Her husband preceded her in death.
Mary proved to be a talented beautician and won many trophies for her hair designs around the city. She was known for her wit, her fashion forward dress attire and her eye makeup & lashes which earned her the Knick name of Madam Butterfly.
Mary lived a full Christian life and was an active member of Griggs Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where she was a deaconess until she became ill.
On Monday, December 20, 2021, God requested that mother come home. Mary was a good daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, mother-in-law, and friend to all those who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her precious memory’s: children, Johnnie Rattler, Ivory Barnes, Gwyneith Black, and David Rattler; sibling, Charles Luckey; grandchildren, Chasity D. Rattler, Tre Black III, Oliver Black, Ben Barnes III, Samuel Barnes, Chelsea D. Rattler, Cora Black, and Courtni D. Rattler; great grandchildren, Ben Barnes IV, Albert C. Black IV, Olivia Black, Anayah D. Boyd, and Bella Barnes; son-in-law, Albert Curtis Black Jr.; daughter-in-law, Paula Rattler; sister-in-law, Jo Cill Brown; sister from another mother, Dorothy Luckey, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
