Nellie McCowin Obituary

Elder Nellie Pearl McCowin was born November 9, 1939 in Crandall, TX to the parentage of the late William Edgar Jackson and the late Alice Marie Jackson. Elder McCowin accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at New Waverly Baptist Church under the pastorship of Reverend Clark. Elder McCowin was a servant for the Lord as an ordained minister for over twenty years. She preached and taught the Word of God too many, both young and old. She served her final years as an Elder at Triump the Church and Kingdom of God in Christ in Dallas, Texas. She received her formal education in the Dallas Independent School District and she completed some college courses. She retired from State Farm Insurance Company and owner of a Montessori Children’s School in Killeen, Texas.

Elder McCowin united in marriage to Perry Rhodes Jr. on April 4, 1960. He preceded her in death. God blessed this union with five symbols of love, Cathy Marshall, Perry Rhodes III, Edgar Rhodes, Kirk Rhodes, and Shanna Roberson. Later in life, she found the “spark of her life” S.A. McCowin. They united in matrimony on April 4, 2003 and created a blended family of ten children.

Elder McCowin was preceded in death by her brothers, Archie Jackson, Willie Paul Smith, and William Charles Jackson and her sisters, Shirley Faye Jackson and Ora Lee Lane.

Elder McCowin released her spirit to God on Friday, January 17, 2020. She leaves to cherish her husband, S.A. McCowin; ten children, Cathy Marshall, Perry Rhodes III, Edgar Rhodes (Natausha), Kirk Rhodes (LaQuita), Shanna Roberson (William), Stanley McCowin (Alnita), Rickey McCowin, Michael McCowin (Kimberly), Gerald McCowin, and Marcus McCowin (Pam); three sisters, Mary Clark (Linnie), Linda Sue Owens and Mattie Price (Terry); (31) grandchildren, one preceded her in death; (17) great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and a plethora of other relatives and friends.
