Rose Pinkney Obituary

Rose Martin Pinkney was born on August 21, 1939, to the late Luevinia Fears and James Mitchell in Camden, Arkansas. She was the eldest of three children and received her education in the Camden Public School System. In 1965, Rose relocated to Dallas, Texas and worked as a Respiratory Therapist at Methodist Hospital for many years before transitioning into sales and working as an Administrative Assistant.

Rose accepted Christ at an early age and enjoyed studying and teaching God’s Word.  She completed studies in Christian Education at D. Edwin Johnson Institute in 1978.  In 1976, Rose met Archie Pinkney and they were married on September 25, 1982. She was also a Cum Laude graduate of Bishop College and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986.

Rose had a few church affiliations during her lifetime; however Greater Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church was the foundation on which she developed a life of servant leadership for Christ. Rose continued her Christian work at Greater Emanuel Baptist Church before she and Archie relocated to Seattle, Washington in 1992, and later uniting with Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

As Rose’s health declined and traveling to church for worship was no longer feasible, she and Archie united with Willing Workers Missionary Baptist Church where they were virtual worshippers until her death.  Rose’s Christian life was like the fragrance of a beautiful rose and her influence will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Rose leaves to cherish her memories:  a devoted husband of 41 years, Rev. Archie Pinkney; five children, Debberra Smith (Mikel), Luvenia Williams (Sammy), James Mardis, Jr. and Stevie Martin (Chandra); 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Malveis Espie of Dallas, TX and Janett Jackson of Little Rock, AR; an aunt, Addie Wafer (Leon) of Homer, LA; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives who loved her dearly.
